About BeauRegardless,
“Strangely enough, when I had a near death experience I realized there was a lot that I wanted to do.”
I have always struggled as a larger person, and after beginning my transition found that what difficulty I had finding clothes was made even more difficult! After a near death experience and realizing how short life really is, there was no fear that could stop me from helping people with what I COULD do.
My initial expertise were more in costuming and fabrication, in 2019 (just before the pandemic) through online gig sites I made it a point to help larger people or artists without the tools or knowledge bring their visions to life! This was short lived due to my lack of business know-how and boundaries. Once there was clarity on how the business model I had originally didn’t work, I set out to gain ANY and all knowledge I could from other smaller crafts people and business owners. I worked in fabric wholesale to learn about fibers, I worked in garment manufacturing to learn how a business can operate, and I worked in wedding alterations to see what clients were the most in need of.
After all of this, in August 2022, BeauRegardless Alterations was born! In combination with Fat Fancy, I knew that there were multiple communities not being served that were intersectional to who I am. This made my vision laser focused on exactly how I could help people and what I would need to do to accomplish it.
For most people the industry of fashion is one sided and I wanted to start a business inclusive to these groups as a fat trans man myself. I help all body types, but my services are predominantly aimed towards accessibility and safety for fat people, queer people, and people of color. The mission is to eventually offer services free of charge as a non-profit organization, however at this point in time it is simply not attainable.
With the love and support of the community I serve, I have been able to give if not nearly free services, but donate my time to those who cannot monetarily contribute. I have been able to slowly work my way into better studio spaces and build amazing relationships with so many people from different walks of life.
I am beyond grateful to be able to provide value to you all, and I will continue to work hard to keep spreading the message that we as humans are deserving of joy through the art of fashion.
